Use of barley straw to control nuisance freshwater algae

Algal growth in freshwaters can lead to problems such as taste and odor, blocked filters, and toxicity harmful to aquatic organisms. In this research, unialgal bioas-says were performed to assess the effects of decomposing barley straw on seven problematic algae. The authors also conducted field trials to determine the effects of barley straw application on natural algal assemblages.
