When I got on the plane, my biggest worry was how long my computer battery would last during my flight home from Tokyo, Japan. That was February 24, 2011. Little did anyone know that 13 days later on March 11 Japan would endure a 9.0 magnitude earthquake—the largest to ever hit Japan and the fourth largest recorded earthquake in the world. Next came a tsunami that tore apart Japan's landscape and moved boats, cars, buildings, and anything else in its path to unnatural resting spots. Then word came that radiation was leaking from the Fukushima nuclear power plant. As the people of Japan looked for missing family and friends, counted the casualties, and assessed the damage, they were hit by a series of strong aftershocks and the disturbing news that radiation was being found in food and the public water supplies.
