摘要

When I first became aware of VA many years ago, one thing that really stuck in my mind was people complaining about VA; this isn't right, that wasn't right, ad infinitum. Well, my fellow veterans, it is 2010 and it ain't your daddy's VA any longer. We have all heard someone tell some type of horror story about VA; a health care mistake or a rating decision that didn't make sense and was later overturned on appeal. When these stories are retold, the mistake gets worse and worse as the tale is passed from one person to another. This is like one of those times in school where a two or three sentence statement was passed from one person to another. By the time the original idea had been relayed and filtered through ten, fifteen, twenty or more people, what the first person said and what the last person said they were told are two different things. We filter any information that we hear through our past experiences. This is when our brain plays tricks on our memories.
