It is indeed a great opportunity to be chosen by the AMVETS family to serve as National First Vice Commander. Your confidence will inspire me to work diligently and to the best of my ability for all of you during the coming year. I will do the maximum to meet the dauntingly high standards set by those who came before me. Over the past years there have been many attempts to enhance our stagnant membership. I will challenge as well as task every single member reading this article to do their part and help recruit a new member. Think about it: There is someone, somewhere who would be glad to join AMVETS if they were just asked to do so. Our service officers' reputation, Americanism programs, and community projects, to name a few, should help sell the AMVETS community to potential new members.
