For more than 20 years, the Department of Labor has spearheaded a multi-agency program to help transitioning veterans find meaningful, lasting career opportunities after their military service. Now, the Transition Assistance Program, which touches every veteran as they make the jump to the civilian workforce, is about to undergo a radical reformation. With unemployment rates for veterans in the key demographic ages of 20-24 soaring to more than twice the national average, DoL could not have chosen a more critical time to revolutionize TAP, nor a more capable and dynamic leader to direct this initiative. In this issue of "Outside the Wire," American Veteran sits down with DoL Assistant Secretary for the Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS) Ray Jefferson, to discuss the new TAP program currendy on target for roll out this Veterans Day, November 11,2011.
