With Rep. Phil Roe

Rep. Phil Roe, R-Tenn., has been a longtime advocate for American military men and women, veterans and their loved ones. As a veteran of the U.S. Army who served as a surgeon in Korea, Roe has taken life lessons from his time in service and brought those ideals to his work in Washington, D.C., where he has quickly become a vocal voice on the needs of our veterans. Elected to a second term in 2010, Roe currently sits on the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, offering sound counsel to his colleagues on the needs of veterans past and present, including those who continue to serve in harm's way in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world. On March 17, 2011 AMVETS recognized Roe's considerable contributions to veterans' service with the 2011 AMVETS Congressional Silver Helmet Award during a reception in the Cannon Caucus Room on Capitol Hill in Washington. Roe recently sat down with American Veteran to discuss his work on behalf of America's bravest and what the Silver Helmet Award means to him.
