SERIALS PRICING TRENDS IN THE NINETIES: A REPORT ON THE AQUEDUCT BENCHMARK TITLE SURVEY

The Aqueduct Benchmark Title Survey compiled three years (1992-1994) of payment data from fifteen academic libraries. The purpose of the project was to compare serials costs and to note trends in subscription agent practices and publisher pricing of scholarly publications. The survey fulfilled Aqueduct Agenda item fourteen through the creation of a benchmark list and by offering suggestions for developing a database to monitor library collections and vendor services. This chapter describes the project and the strengths and shortcomings of the survey.
