ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ2008の際に設計した温室であrnる。ジャルデイーニ公園の中に新しいランドスケープを提奏した。rn僕たちは、このプロジ工クトの中で、建築の内側にできあrnがる環境が、そのままその建築を取り巻く周りの風景にrnなっていくことを思い描いていた。つまり、それは自然環rn境（＝温室の外側）と人工環境（＝温室の内側）の境をなくrnし等価にしていくような試みでもあり、同時にベネチアでrn育成している植物（＝温室の外側）とベネチアでは育たなrnい植物（＝温室の内側）をひとつの風景の中に混ぜ合わせ、rn日本館の周辺に新しい環境をつくり出そうとするような実rn験でもあった。rnこのプロジェクトを実現させるためには、そこに計画されrnる温室の存在感をできる限り希薄にし、温室の内側と外側rnをできる限り－体的なものとして感じられるようする必要があった。rn植物の配置と柱の配置、それに伴う構造の応力のバランス、rnガラスの厚み、ガラスと躯体との接合など、それらのスケーrnルをどこまでも、ランドスケープをつくりあげている草木rnなどのスケールと近いものにしていこうとした。rn一般的な建築のスケールを少し超えることで、建築のありrn方が大きく変わっていくのかもしれない。そういうことをrn僕たちは期待していた。%We created a series of greenhouses for the 2008 Venice Biennale, and in doing so proposed a new landscape in the Giardini Pubblici.rnIn this project, we imagined the interior as an environment that would extend outward to envelope the surrounding landscape. In this project, we considered the environment arising from inside the architecture and imagined it extending outside and becoming part of the surrounding landscape. In other words, we attempted to eliminate the boundary between the natural environment (the area outside the greenhouses) and the artificial environment (the area inside the greenhouses), thereby doing away with any sense of hierarchy between them. In further intermixing plants that grow in the natural Venetian environment (those outside the greenhouses) with those that do not (those inside the greenhouses), we sought to create a new landscape around the Japanese Pavillion.rnIt was necessary for us to integrate the inside and outside spaces of the greenhouses and to minimize the greenhouses' presence. Our decisions regarding the positioning of plants and columns, the selection of different glass thicknesses, and the method of fixing the glass to the structure, along with the accompanying stress equilibrium of the overall structure, was guided by our desire to maintain a scale similar to that of the vegetation in the landscape. By slightly exceeding the ordinary scale of architecture in this project, we sought to change the way people think about architecture.
