But they are cultural symbols that reflect a mentality in the context of self-colonized China, in which Western cultures with their paraphernalia are sublimated and non-Western cultures (such as those of Asia and Africa)are held in contempt. This article is an attempt to explore the historical origins of this process and the current situation, with the intention of cautioning people to be vigilant about the phenomenon and to seek a sensible balance in this structure in which the West is held over the East.
