Nodule-specific energy sensors determine symbiotic nitrogen fixation by regulating phosphoenolpyruvate allocation

摘要

Legume roots can fix atmospheric nitrogen(N2)via symbiotic bacteria of the Rhizobium genus in root nodules. The symbiotic nitrogen fixation(SNF)by rhizobia can fix up to80%of biologically fixed nitrogen in agricultural fields. This ability of legumes makes them environment-friendly crops by reducing the usage of nitrogen fertilizer(Gong et al.,2020).The SNF in legume nodules is a highly energy-demanding process, fueled by plants that supply photoassimilates mainly in the form of sucrose(Udvardi and Poole,2013).
