In order to fully utilize the limited frequency and bandwidth resources in 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLAN), a novel media access control (MAC) protocol which supports bi-directional transmission is proposed. The protocol makes two packets respectively from the senderand the receiver transmit together through one frame exchange sequence to reduce the network overhead and save the bandwidth resources. The analytical model and the simulation results show that, compared with other MAC protocols, the proposed protocol can significantly improve the average throughput of bi-directional flows, while maintaining the backward compatibility with the legacy 802.11 distributed coordination function (DCF) protocol.%为了充分利用无线局域网有限的频率和带宽资源,提出了一种新的支持双向传输的媒体接入控制(MAC)协议.
