The seismic risk analysis method and some special aspects concerning its application to ocean oil platforms are reviewed briefly through an example of analysis for the oil platforms in the Bohai sea. In view of the features of temporal and spatial distribution of earthquakes in China, it is emphasized that the temporal and spatial inhomogeneity of seismicity should be thoroughly studied when dealing with a specific project where a short service life and a high degree of safety are required.
