摘要

Surficial geology and Quaternary studies were conducted in the Walker Lake map area, (NTS 56J/9--16). These include mapping surficial geology, measuring ice-movement indicators, sampling for till geochemistry and pebble lithologies, and investigating landform evolution.; Regional 1:100 000-scale surficial geology mapping was carried out using air photo interpretation, ground- and air-truthing. This work noted till, glaciofluvial, glaciolacustrine, colluvial, and minor alluvial deposits. Till is the most common, occurring primarily on the uplands. Three styles of glaciofluvial deposits were identified. "Valley corridors" are dominated by ice contact deposits (i.e. eskers), surrounded by gradual contacts with till. "Kettled corridors" are characterized by pitted glaciofluvial terraces. "Undulating corridors" are composed of ice contact deposits that form hummocks and transverse ridges. The long profile of these corridors is undulatory. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
