Influencing the Development of Building Codes, Regulations, and Standards

Believe it or not in the world of codes, regulations, and standards the most highly sought after individuals to participate in the process are Facility Manager (FM), end users. This paper has three key objectives that FM's must understand what they have to do in order to effectively influence the process of making building codes, regulations, and standards. Hereinafter codes, regulations, and standards are referred to as CRS. The three objectives are: 1. The importance of building codes, regulations, and standards to the practice of the FM profession. 2. The basics of the building codes, regulations, and standards process. 3. Financial implications of building "code" participation outcomes through actual experiences the National Electrical Code (NEC), International Mechanical Code (IMC).
