C.V.G. Electrificacion del Caroni (EDELCA) is an electric power generation and transmission company created by the Venezuelan Government in 1963, which has a power transmission system comprising 2100 km (approximately 1300 miles ) of 765 kV power lines, 2400 km (1500 miles) of 400 kV lines and 500 km (approximately 300 miles) of 115 kV to 230 kV power lines. This transmission system is connected to the Guri dam (10000 MW) and to the Macagua Complex (2950 MW), which in 1998 generated 56190 GWh, equivalent to approximately 70% of the country's total electricity consumption (See map in Appendix).
