Biochemical modification in cadmium intoxicated and propolis extract treated rats

Propolis is a complex substance that is collected by honey bees. Its' composition is different with the region and season from where Propolis is collected. Several biological attributes such as anticancer, antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiinflammatory and antibiotic activities have been reported for propolis and its constituents. The present work is concerning with the study of the alcoholic Propolis extract effect on some blood and liver iron biochemical parameters and of histological aspects of some tissues. Sideremia, haemoglobinemia, methaemoglobinemia, methaemoglobinreductase and catalase were determined. An increasing of sideremia and haemoglobinemia at the CdCl_2 intoxicated and treated batch was a proof of haemoglobin protection against oxidation, as well as the methaemoglobinreductase average activity value at the Propolis treated batch.
