Southern California faces many water supply challenges - droughts, climate change, populationgrowth, and legal and environmental constraints combine to reduce or strain water supplyreliability, particularly water imported from the Colorado River and Sacramento-San JoaquinBay/Delta. Recycled water offers a local, reliable, and drought-proof approach for augmentinglocal and imported supplies. Eleven water and wastewater agencies in North San Diego Countyhave joined together to develop a Regional Recycled Water Facilities Plan for North San DiegoCounty to maximize reuse in a cost effective manner and set up State and Federal fundingopportunities. This plan assists North San Diego County water and wastewater agencies inidentifying the benefits of regionalization of existing and planned reclamation systems to furthermaximize the use of recycled water in a cost effective manner. Regionalization of facilitiesallows recycled water to play an even more significant role in meeting the future water needs inthe area. The intent of this study is to identify new local and regional recycled water projects thatwill provide additional recycled water supplies to the local water agencies beyond what theycould utilize individually.
