This paper describes the alternative propulsion for a nuclear submarine which can be used in case of a reactor scram inrntactical scenarios where it is undesirable to use diesel engines as they rely on atmosphere and requires the submarine tornsnorkel. Three Siemens BZM 120 PEM fuel cells and 85 tones of Li-Ion batteries are used, sufficient to power 5200 tonernof model submarine used in this paper. The combination of Li-Ion batteries and fuel cell can provide submergedrnendurance of 13 days to 5200 tone submarine with the addition of a 5.8m long plug.
