INTRODUCTION Permafrost wetlands are of great significance for the natural preservation due to their important role in preventing the permafrost from degeneration (Lü et al., 2007; Zhang et al., 2001) and in carbon sequestration (Duan et al., 2008). Wetland ecosystems are primary concern for nature conservation and restoration (Keddy, 2000; Edyvane, 1999). Adequate conservation and restoration strategies emerge with the comprehensive scientific investigations on wetland properties and processes (Peters et al., 2008). Elucidation of plant species distributions in response to environmental gradients is fundamental to our understanding to wetland properties and processes.
