Southern Hemisphere Perspectives on the End-Permian Life Crisis and the Triassic Recovery

Although the reality of an end-Permian life crisis has been widely accepted, since the Calgary symposium of 1971 (Logan and Hills, 1973), understanding is still very much in a state of flux, particularly because conditions proclaimed to have been world-wide turned out to have been less than pervasive, and often limited to parts only of the northern hemisphere. In this summary, some of the claims are briefly examined, and note made of facets of biotic recovery that owed much to the record provided by sequences of Gondwana, especially "deep Gondwana".
