摘要

The mechanics of the Johnson, Kendall and Roberts (JKR) adhesion test is reviewed in this article. We first re-derive the basic JKR theory using a fracture mechanics approach. This is followed by a detailed discussion of the assumptions underlying the JKR theory and its applicability. These discussions include finite specimen effects, modeling of surface forces using cohesive zone descriptions, nonlinear elasticity, large deformation effects, hysteresis due to surface effects, and bulk viscoelasticity. Some new results on viscoelastic contact and their applicability to adhesion test are discussed.
