Ideally hemocompatible biomaterials are necessary for use in blood-cointacting applications, such as artificial hearts, vascular grafts, and cardiac assist devices. Many investigations has been conducted to improve the heamocompatibility of biomaterials, including heparin modifications, protein asorption, or material surface covered endothelia, and so on. In recent years, tissue factor(TF) has been proved to play an important role in thrombus formation induced by biomaterials. Our research was aimed at exploring the possibility of using tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) to improve the hemocompaatibility of biomaterials.
