The applications of the third-order normal polynomial to structural reliability assessment

In this paper, the third-order normal polynomial is investigated. First, a four parameters distribution based on the polynomial is defined, and the flexibility for fitting statistical data by using the distribution is illustrated by two practical examples. Second, a fourth-moment reliability index is derived, and several examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of the reliability index for structural reliability assessment.
