Effect of Turbulence Modeling on RANS Computation of Propeller Tip Vortex Flow

The steady-state tip vortex flow generated by a marine propellerrnhas been computed using the RANS solver ANSYS~R CFX~R . Arnspiral-like structured grid with grid concentration aligned with thernvortex core was generated. Validation studies have been carried outrnfor the David Taylor Model Basin (DTMB) 5168 propeller model atrnopen-water condition. Various eddy viscosity turbulence models andrnReynolds-stress models were employed in the computations. The effectrnof the turbulence modeling and the grid resolution on the solutionrnwas investigated. The computed velocity field was compared withrnexperimental data.
