摘要

The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the ability of thernsurface reflection method, namely the sonic echo method and impulsernresponse method, for flaw size assessment in a pile. Three dimensionalrnaxisymmetric finite element models were performed to investigate therneffects of the flaw size, flaw depth-to-pile diameter ratio, and pile-tosoilrnstiffness ratio on the response of the surface reflection test.rnAccording to the results from the numerical simulations, some usefulrnformulas for flaw size assessment in a pile are proposed, consideringrnthese factors simultaneously. Some other factors, such as the flawrnlength and pile diameter and length, were also discussed to show theirrneffects on the proposed formulas.
