Internet today has tremendous information potential inrnany given area. But the resources are heterogeneous andrndistributed and not easy to locate. General search enginesrnare not equipped to search the entire Net and they canrnonly cover the domain partially. Moreover, they do notrnprovide context to the term/s searched so a lot of noisernfigures in the retrieved set. In general, users are notrnsatisfied with the retrieval of these search engines. Paperrndiscusses the issues in information retrieval on Internetrnand the way search engines work. It compares the workrnto library cataloguing which serves as an adequate tool ofrnlocation catering to various users approaches to therncollection within libraries. Paper also highlights thernimportance of display formats for search sessions andrndiscusses the AACR2 rules for display of InternetrnResources. It advocates for uses of the Dublin Core set ofrnelements in the display of search results as it is set thatrnhad been advocated and understood by professionalsrnacross disciplines. A model based on ASP is presentedrnhere for representation of the search results using DublinrnCore elements.
