A consortium of leading educational professional organizations in the United States, led by the International Society for Technology in Education has developed a set of National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) for students. The NETS standards describe what all students should know about and be able to do with technology. They are divided into six categories [1]: Basic operations and concepts; Social, ethical, and human issues; Technology productivity tools; Technology communication tools; Technology research tools; and Technology problem-solving and decision-making tools.The NETS standards also include performance indicators at each of four major target grade ranges, PK-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12. NETS standards describe fundamental technology competencies to be developed through meaningful learning experiences integrated throughout the PreK-12 curriculum. They provide realistic benchmarks for achievement. They also provide a continuum of technology skills that can be achieved through a curriculumthat reinforces high level learning and problem solving strategies in which technology tools play a major role.
