Addressing educational change through systems design allows disciplined inquiry intornthe complex and emerging social structures of the dynamic system. Narrative storyrnmethod provides a way to examine the historical and current lived practice of thosernengaged in the educational system. As a design conversation it encourages thernparticipation of all levels of the organization into creating the organization’s livingrnnarrative. This paper address how narrative story can be used to engage students withinrnthe system in developing that narrative.rnNarrative story provided the construct within which to examine their perspectives.rnStudents from ninth grade through twelfth grade participated in the study with thernintention of making school a better place for all students. This paper examines theirrnstories and the implications in the design process for Sherman Independent SchoolrnDistrict. The paper also examines narrative story as an appropriate social discourse in therncreation and sustainment of educational systems that contribute to human betterment forrnall students.
