The finite element method allows us to accurately calculate the electric field in a polymer in the presence of water trees for the actual geometry of the water needle laboratory specimens.rnThe calculations performed in the needle - plane geometry, confirm that the maximum of amplification of the field is reached at the front of the water tree. However, the amplification coefficient is found lower than the value predicted by the model of concentric inhomogenous dielectric spheres and its dependence on water tree length is different.
