Since te specific surface area (m~2/g) of a material is a function of its size and of the shape, the chemical and physical nature of the surface of a fine powder is of great mportance whenever such a poweder is set in a matrix, for exaple pigments in paints, carbon blacks in rubber articles and so on. Rheological and mechanical properties such as dispersion and reinforcing are very much dependent on the surface characteristics of the powders. In the followings, application examples of plasma techniques relates to surface modification of organic pigments and carbon black for paint and rubber composition are detailed.
