Application of a plasma polymer directly on surface of a metal provides soem significant level of corrosion resistance (1-5), however, the level of corrosion resistance required for some steel products such as automobile bodies, which are subjected to severe corrosive environment, cannot be met by a simple application of ultra-thin layer of a plasma polymer. Furthermore, an automobile body must be painted for aseptic reason, and therefore, it is more realistic approach to use such a plasma polymer layer as a primer or a adhesion promoter for the subsequent paint application. In such an approach, the corrosion protective characteristics of the ultra-thin layer is not the major issue. This situation can be also seen in an example of zinc phosphating widely used in the painting process of automobile bodies.
