The present paper deals with the possibility to utilise the new mobile satellite communication systems to route the telemetry and the telecommand signals originated or directed toward satellites in low earth orbit. The analysis has been specialised for a particular small satellite, conceived for telecommunication missions, currently under consideration by the Italian Space Agency (ASI) for a mission in 2003.rnMany of the various mobile satellite constellations already deployed, in completion phase or programmed have been analysed in detail. In accordance with the work of other authors [1], the most promising system for such an application, has resulted to be ICO; we will therefore restrict our attention to this system.
