Recent advancements of the NMR data acquisition and 2D NMR interpretation techniques have made it possible to address the particularly challenging heavyoil reservoir characterization problem. We have successfully used NMR logs to identify and quantify heavy oil reservoir properties in Orinoco Belt, Venezuela. We demonstrate the advantage of using 2D NMR for the Orinoco Belt region over conventional 1D T2 spectra by reducing the uncertainty between CBW and heavy oil and by identifying the existence of lighter oil components. We further show that the NMR logging has refined the heavy oil volumes and reduced evaluation uncertainties relative to conventional, resistivity-based saturation analysis.
