In this study, a Design of Experiments approach was used to investigate the effects of metal injection molding (MM) processing control parameters on mechanical properties. The effects of molding, debinding, sintering, and heat treatment on tensile properties of stainless 17-4PH and 8620 MM alloys will be reported. The resultant distribution and variation of tensile properties will be correlated with prior results from an investigation of impact toughness. Explanation and analysis of the resulting mechanical properties will be presented. Additional properties included in the study are hardness, density, and carbon content. An examination of the resulting microstructures will be included along with an analysis of potential MM processing defects and their effect on properties.
