Bolt joint structures have been widely used in engineering equipment. Nonlinear contact problem make the dynamic analysis of bolt joint structure becomes a difficulty in finite element analysis. In order to obtain more precise result, the effect of the area changing of the actual contact surface must be taken into consideration. Base on the finite element method about contact problem, modeling and simulation of the bolt joint structure with preload in NASTRAN were introduced. The different natural modal parameters of the structure were obtained by varying preloads and contact surface friction coefficients. Experimental modal analysis for a typical bolt joint structure was provided. The result of the simulation and experiment matched well. So it showed that the proposed method could be useful to illustrate the modal analysis of bolt structure.
