Seismic qualification of rotating systems is performed by shake table testing or analytical methods. However shake table testing is not always feasible for the systems with excessive weight and large size. Hence, analytical models of seismic response are required to be developed for rotating machines. In the present paper, the seismic analysis of a rotor - bearing system using an in-house finite element code is presented in time domain. An example problem for a rotor - bearing system is analyzed using Tarapur site ground motion. The effect of fluid film bearing and unbalance on seismic response of rotor bearing system has been presented.
