Ensuring energy-efficient operation of a hydraulic cylinder is determined also by minimizing the friction forces caused by mobile sealing systems. The nature of friction in a sealing system on one hand, and the system's sealing ability, on the other, are determined by the thickness of the fluid film built up at the contact between seal and sealed surface. The paper presents an evaluation of the hydrodynamic pressures that causes the occurrence of a fluid-filled gap between the elements of a coaxial sealing system, as well as the influence of various parameters on its size.
