As examining these six examples, the author summarizes as follows: " Natural mineral water": Over the oppositions of East Asian and American countries, the voting adopted a generic term "natural" as a part of an internationally standardized term "natural mineral water". This is a typical example of the strong backup of European culture. "Pickles" and "Kimchi": The former is generic, and the latter is a traditional food having limited ingredients and special manufacturing processes. The latter was adopted as an international standard. "Instant noodles" : European countries regarded instant noodles as natural products as well as natural mineral waters. As the result of revising the CODEX categories to separate fresh noodles and pre-cooked noodles, this standard would be adopted. " Refrigerated, non-fermented soybean products" : These products have a number of varieties which are manufactured worldwide, and have many problems on the scope, terms and definitions. "Fermented soybean pastes" : This term is so generic, but a variety named "gochujang" , a Korean traditional food would be adopted as an international standard. "Soy sauce" ; Before proposing this standard, a number of varieties named soy sauce manufactures worldwide. The definitions of soy sauce are so varied that this proposal was withdrawn.
