Calcium aluminate cement pastes containing NaCl (3% of Cl~- by weight of cement) were maintained at the temperature of 40°C for 7 years in order to study the stability of the hydrated chloro-aluminate (Friedel's salt) and its influence on the hexagonal to cubic conversion. The study was conducted by x-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR), thermal analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
