Business organizations have similar behaviors to symbiotic relationships in nature. An organization can be described as a technorganic system, having bidirectional complex interactions between machines and humans. By understanding the nature of symbiotic relationships, managers and engineers can better manage complex systems. After presenting a definition of the distinctive characteristics for symbiotic schemes, this paper maps the different types of symbiotic relationships to business organizations schemata presenting an extension on the existing knowledge of technorganic symbiotic systems by adding three new schemes to the existing three categories. The main thesis of this paper is that having a better understanding (mental model) of how business organizations works, through symbiotic relationships, managers and engineers will be provided with a helpful tool for transforming current organizations into evolved technorganic systems.
