ENDOSCOPIC TRANSSPHENOIDAL PITUITARY SURGERY

The human pituitary gland is uniquely situated at the base of the skull, posterior to the nasal passages and sphenoid sinus inferior to the brain. Due to this location the pituitary gland and associated tumors can be approached from a nasal route rather and cranial route utilized for most brain lesions. Reaching the pituitary region via the sphenoid sinus located directly behind the nose so called transsphenoidal (TS) approach offers many advantages, including direct exposure of the pituitary fossa,minimal tissue,the destruction, and protection of the intracranial contents.
