Osteosarcoma is the most common primary bone tumor in dogs and makes up approximately 85% of the tumors of the skeleton. This is primarily a disease of large and giant breed dogs. Older dogs are more commonly affected, with a median age of 7 years. Osteosarcoma has a predilection for the metaphyseal regions of long bones. The most common sites of osteosarcoma include the metaphyseal region of the distal radius, proximal humerus, distal femur and distal and proximal tibia.
