Functional coatings are the next generation technology being engineered to reduce costs in maritime transport containers. Cargo containers ship different products that require cleaning between shipments, which takes time and energy. A lipase enhanced tank liner coating was engineered to reduce the cleaning time between cargo loads of large marine transport ships. Here we will discuss the methodology and activity retention of the functional additive DeGreez within a two component novolac epoxy tank liner coating. We found that the lipase additive was able to retain functionality in all conditions necessary for incorporation and service in the marine tank liner coating.
