Development of Advanced Aerodynamic Data Fusion Techniques for Flight Simulation Database Construction

Aerodynamic database is the most complicated and one of the most important components of flight simulation. The database is composed of multiple tables containing static, dynamic and control coefficients of an aircraft at various flight conditions. There also exist a variety of data sources that may be used to construct the tables. A set of computational methods is proposed in this research that allow the time efficient and accurate construction of the aerodynamic database. Four data fusion scenarios are developed for quick generation of aerodynamic tables. Scenarios include construction of a table using high-fidelity computational analysis, refinement of a low-fidelity data using more sophisticated analysis tools, combination of experimental and computational data, and combination of a data located at different parts of a design space. Construction of a full set of aerodynamic tables for generic fighter aircraft will be demonstrated as well as comparison of an aircraft responses with existing simulation and flight test data.
