Lord of the Ring Jet~(TM)

Regulations have come a long way since 1970, gaseous emissions to the environment have demanded reductions more than a 100 fold. The Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI) Ring Jet® design has proven performance and ease of operation for more than 55 years. The process has evolved along with regulations. More robust and efficient designs have been established to address the needs. The design consists of four major sections: the quench, the packed bed, and Ring Jet®, and the mercury removal compartment if needed. These sections are designed to exploit the overall removal efficiency. In addition, no pumping system is required, and hence cost and operation effort are kept to a minimum. This design offers a number of benefits including simplicity, small footprint, and flexibility. This paper discusses the thoughts behind the HZI wet scrubber design to deliver these benefits, while focusing the art of the Ring Jet®.
