DISTENSIBILITY OF THE ATHEROSCLEROTIC CAROTID ARTERY: RELATIONSHIP WITH PLAQUE BURDEN AND COMPOSITION?

In this study we have focused on the vessel wall mechanics by evaluating the distensibility in atherosclerotic carotid arteries and examining its potential dependence on plaque morphology and composition. Plaque features were not found to be predictive of wall distensibility. This suggests that if patient-specific distensibility is required for biomechanical modeling, it should be measured, rather than estimated from plaque characteristics.
