NANOSTRUCTURE-ENHANCED PROLIFERATIVE THERAPY FOR LIGAMENTS AND TENDONS

The results of these basic studies show the potential of the nanostructure-enhanced prolotherapy in ligament and tendon healing at a fundamental, cellular level. They also point to another mechanism for tissue healing after prolotherapy that is separate from the body's wound healing cascade. Future studies will focus on longer time periods and the use of reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction to measure the upregulation and downregulation of tendon-related genes in response to prolotherapy, and the use of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and histological staining to measure protein production. Animal studies also will be conducted to compare the response of isolated cell populations versus that of complete biological systems to the combined treatment.
