摘要

In recent years, computational methods have often been utilized for a better understanding of cardiovascular systems. They can be used to analyze vascular disease development [1], predict life threatening risk factors [2], and help improve vascular treatments. One of the fields, where simulations are intensively used, is modeling diseased large arteries; such as Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA) and Carotid Stenoses. In recent years we have developed advanced cardiovascular models that fully take the existing complexity (thrombus, calcifications, prestressing, etc.) into account, which is crucial for obtaining useful patient-specific results. Such arteries are known to have elevated pressure values due to the resistance of the terminal arteries and arterioles. This fact is however often neglected in literature despite the fact that it crucially influences the most important quantity of interest, namely the stress state within the tissue.
