Relations between tectonic activities in North China and abnormal surface latent heat flux based on NCEP data

Surface Latent Heat Flux (SLHF) is an important atmospheric parameter, which is proportional to the evaporation from the Earth surface. Recent studies show that abnormal SLHF in an epicenter region usually occurs prior to several coastal earthquakes, without abnormal evidence in terrestrial regions far away from the coast. In this paper, the tectonic activity of North China is studied based on the four regional moderate earthquakes and the spatio-temporal features of SLHF abnormal index (AI). The monitoring time include 40 days before and after the earthquake time. The results show that the SLHF AI of some regional points of some days is extreme higher than usual. Although these points are far away from the center of the earthquake, but they all be scattered on the three main lithosphere faults in North China. And the extreme SLHF AI repeat many times in some special points. The result shows that the abnormal SLHF is related to tectonic movement.
