'Life Cycle Value index' for industry ecology in housing

The article proposes an alternative index of performance over time termed: Life Cycle Value (LCV) index, that integrates qualitative performance with LCA and LCC. The article presents a case study to verify the applicability of the LCV index to housing. Qualitative aspects for assessing the LCV index in housing are listed and are then related to adaptable performance of housing to ever changing requirements. The idea of hierarchical structures emerges to simplify interfaces of various facets of modules. It is shown that subdivision of products and process into autonomous hierarchical modules could realize a better LCV index by promoting dematerialization in the business of continual customization of housing over time. The case study suggests that the introduction of the LCV index could promote industrial ecology in housing.
